Ordering feed the easy way
Usually, a fish farmer will know when to order feeds, based on the life stage of the fish, the biomass, and feeding practices on the farm. Occasionally and to provide the best possible service, the local BioMar team might be concerned if the farm soon will run out of feed and might contact the farmer. Ordering BioMar feeds is easily done online by utilising BioMar’s Customer Portal. Another way of placing an order is by giving a phone call or sending an email or a WhatsApp message to Oy BioMar AB’s customer service and logistics centre based in Turku.
From Denmark to Finland by ship or truck
The BioMar feeds sold in Finland are produced at the BioMar factory in Denmark. Deliveries from the Danish factory to Turku are shipped either by ship or trailers. Petteri Leskinen, who has been with Oy BioMar AB since 2001, informs that historically, over the years, even train transport has been used from Denmark to Finland. At that time there was a vessel that could load railway wagons from Stockholm to Turku.
The usual lead time from order placed by the Finnish BioMar team at the factory to arrival at the Turku warehouse is 10-14 days. Shipments to Turku with vessel are done so that the ship unloads in Turku every 10 days, while trailer transports are received from Denmark within 3-5 days after loading the feed at the Danish factory.
Always on stock in Turku
Established in 1994, the BioMar warehouse at the harbour in Turku allows for fast feed deliveries to any Finnish fish farm. BioMar’s most selling product EFICO Enviro 923 is always on stock and can always be delivered with no delays, the Finnish BioMar team is proud to say. This is an advantage for BioMar, avoiding planning for time consuming lead time for the production and delivery of smaller batches of feed. Knowing their customer’s needs, the experienced BioMar logistics team in Turku certainly also knows to plan for having INICIO Plus fry feeds and other popular BioMar feeds in stock in due time for peak seasons. Fast track from warehouse to fish farm
Once our customer orders feed, Sales and Logistics coordinator Eeli Poikonen enters the order into BioMar’s ERP administration system from which the transport order is sent electronically to the selected carrier. Some customers pick up or arrange the delivery themselves. But usually, BioMar arranges for shipment of the feed either the same day or the day after the order, depending on the customer's wishes. Giving the fact that the BioMar warehouse in Turky usually has feed in stock, delivery depends on the carrier's ability to deliver the shipment. If the transport is arranged by BioMar, the local shipping partner is Kaukokiito that is one of Finland’s leading private logistics and transport companies and can deliver to whole Finland overnight.
The picking list is printed to Stevena oy, i.e. the external keeper of the BioMar warehouse. Some carriers do not use paper waybills anymore but, if necessary, the waybill is also printed for the warehouse.
When BioMar books a transport, the customer receives an email notification of the shipment arriving to them. This notification includes a link to track the shipment. When the shipment has been handed over to the carrier for transportation, BioMar’s ERP system automatically sends the waybill to the recipient, by email.
BioMar Customer Portal
BioMar in Finland offers our customers to follow their feed orders via the BioMar Customer Portal. BioMar Customer Portal enables our customers to utilise services such as order placement, tracking of order history, accessing files such as delivery notes and invoices, getting an overview of feed usage, extraction of traceability information and environmental data such as N and P, based on purchases, lot numbers. BioMar customer portal is open for integration to the system of our transportation partners.
Country Manager Pekka Marttinen and his team encourage our customers to be open minded and to exploit the advantages of this free online service that is available 24/7.
“In Finland, fish farming is a strong player for producing delicious, healthy, sustainable local food. This asks for a strong collaboration in the development of sustainable and easily accessible fish feeds, and that is what BioMar offers,” Pekka Marttinen concludes.

Corn gluten meals are packed with value in aquaculture nutrition. With 60–70% protein on a dry matter basis, plus functional compounds like carotenoids, CGM is doing a lot of hard work in modern fish and shrimp diets.
Slagteklare laks blev analyseret for at bestemme den spiselige del. Resultatet viste, at hele 74 procent af laksen bestod af rent fiskekød.
As the aquaculture industry expands, one of the key challenges is finding sustainable and nutritious alternatives to traditional ingredients like fishmeal and fish oil, which have been the cornerstone of aquafeeds historically. One promising alternative that is gaining attention in aqua-faced formulation are horse beans.
Selecting the right feed is critical for achieving production goals on a fish farm. Conducting feed trials directly on the farm is the most effective way to identify the best option. BioMar helps guide this process.
Guar, or Cyamopsis tetragonoloba, might not sound glamorous, but it powers a surprising range of industries. From your pantry to petroleum, and even into fish feed, this underappreciated crop is quietly shaping the world around us.

Wheat gluten is a common ingredient in modern aquaculture diets, valued for a combination of nutritional and functional advantages. It isn’t a magic ingredient, but it consistently supports efficient feed production and healthy fish growth. One of its best-known traits is its strong binding ability earning it the occasional nickname “super glue.” This natural binding property allows many feed mills to reduce or even eliminate synthetic binders.
